Guess the Airport

Privacy policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026

1. What we collect

Account

To play you need an account. We store your email address, your username and, if you sign in with Google, the basic profile Google shares (name and profile picture). Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never stored in plain text.

Avatar

If you upload an avatar, we resize it in your browser and store the small image file.

Gameplay

We record the rounds you play: which airport was shown, your answer, whether you used a hint, the time and your score. This powers scoring, streaks, leaderboards and your stats page.

Photo reports and waitlist

If you report a photo we store the reason and any note you add. If you join the mobile app waitlist we store your email address and preferred platform.

Email preferences

If you unsubscribe from product updates we keep your email address on a suppression list so we can honour that choice. We also keep a record of which update emails were sent to which address.

Technical data

Our hosting and database providers process IP addresses and request logs to run and secure the service.

2. What is public

Your username, avatar, score, rank and stats (accuracy, streaks, accuracy by continent and recent airports) appear on leaderboards and on your public profile page. Your email address is never shown to other players.

3. Emails we send you

We send two kinds of email:

  • Account emails that you trigger or need to use the service: email confirmation, password reset and security notices. These are sent whatever your email preferences are.
  • Product updates: occasional news about Guess the Airport, such as new features, the daily challenge, leaderboards and the mobile app. We send these to the email address of your account and to addresses on our mobile app waitlist, because we think existing players and people who asked to hear from us would want to know. We don’t send third-party advertising and we don’t share your address with anyone for their marketing.

You can stop product updates at any time with the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every update email, or with the “Email me product updates” switch on your account page. Unsubscribing takes effect straight away and doesn’t affect your account. You can object to this use of your email address at any time by writing to support@guesstheairport.com.

Our legal basis for product updates is our legitimate interest in keeping our players and waitlist informed about the service they signed up for, which you can object to as described above.

4. Cookies and local storage

  • Essential: sign-in cookies that keep you logged in.
  • Preferences: your IATA/ICAO choice and your cookie choice, stored in your browser.
  • Analytics (optional): Google Analytics cookies, set only if you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change your mind by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

We don’t use cookies for advertising.

5. Who processes your data

  • Supabase (EU, Ireland): authentication, database and file storage.
  • Vercel: hosting and content delivery.
  • Brevo (EU, France): sends our emails, including account emails and product updates. It receives your email address, your username and the email content.
  • Google: sign-in with Google (if you use it) and Google Analytics (only with your consent).
  • OpenStreetMap: the map shown after each answer is loaded from openstreetmap.org, which receives your IP address when it loads.

Hints are generated in advance with an AI service using only public airport facts; none of your data is sent to it. We do not sell or rent your personal information.

6. Children

The game is not intended for children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.

7. Security and retention

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, but no online service is perfectly secure. We keep your account and gameplay history until you delete your account.

8. Your rights

You can:

  • change your username and avatar on your account page;
  • ask for a copy of your data, or for your account and its data to be deleted;
  • unsubscribe from product updates at any time (see section 3);
  • clear cookies and local storage in your browser at any time.

Where applicable law gives you further rights, such as access, correction, erasure or complaining to your data protection authority, they apply too. For any request, email support@guesstheairport.com.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version; continuing to play means you accept the changes.
